The Weekly Awesome Box Office Releases

This week, we have a few awesome films set to hit the big screen and I’m looking forward to both of them!

First up, The Losers (as prevously discussed on GeekZenith.com)…

Film Trailers by Filmtrailer.com

A tale of double cross and revenge, centered upon the members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The team-Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar -find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they’re joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war. Courtesy IMDB.com

This is a graphic novel film that I was looking forward. That is, until I saw the trailer. Nothing against the actors, the acting or even the trailer itself, but both the characters and the storyline seem to drastically divert from the graphic novel, which held a compelling story and portray interesting and fresh characters.

It’s a shame the idea couldn’t be sold to Warner Bros as was and the deviation has subsequently set my expectations of the film low. But I think that’s a good thing because from the bits remaining, I still suspect it’s going to be an enjoyable watch that will turn out to be much better than I’d hoped for.

Next up, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Film Trailers by Filmtrailer.com

Set in the mystical lands of Persia, a rogue prince and a mysterious princess race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time — a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world. Courtesy IMDB.com

Prince of Persian seems like a decent action flick; full of breath-taking action sequences and various mark out’s to the very popular video game. Judging from the trailer, the storyline seems a little suspect; they keep everything vague and draw the viewer in with the action sequences and the sheer beauty of Gemma Arterton, but nevertheless it does look like a fun film. I very much doubt we’ll see anything ground-breaking with this movie and certainly nothing worthy of an oscar performance, but it’ll be enjoyable and worth every penny to go and watch.

It’ll also be better than going to watch Sex in the City, but that’s mostly because ANYTHING is better than watching Sex in the City. I’d rather set my face on fire than go see that cinematic gobshitery.
