The Avengers is set to be released in the Spring of 2012, but work on the movie is set to begin sooner than you may think. At least, it is according to Mark Ruffalo.
Ruffalo will replace Edward Norton in portraying the unfortunate scientist Bruce Banner, who as we all know changes into the massive, green monster we all loving know as the Hulk whenever he goes apeshit or gets a bit upset. Ruffalo will become the third actor to play the Bruce Banner character (the third being Eric Bana in the original Hulk movie way back in 2003) and in an interview with Collider he told them he was well aware of what exactly he was taking on:
Yeah, are you kidding me? I’ve got some big shoes to fill. I kind of look at it as my generation’s Hamlet. We’re all going to get a shot at it.
And revealing more about what he has to do to get ready for the role he confides:
We have to get the script. We’ve been working on the script, which has been fun. I’ve lost 15 pounds. They don’t want me all ripped up, but they want me to be lean and mean. It’s about trying to get the psychology of somebody who knows, at any moment, they could literally tear the roof off of wherever they are and trying to bring something real to that and totally fantastic. I’ve been working with Joss Whedon on the script, with the rest of the cast, and we start rehearsals soon. Hopefully, we’ll have the mother of all comic book movies for you soon.
Before finally revealing that final nugget of information that’s music to comic book geek’s ears when asked when shooting for the movie will begin:
In the first week of May.
And there you have it. What do you think? Are you as hyped as me about the Avengers movie? Are you concerned that having a third actor to portray Bruce Banner is going to lessen the credibility of the character some? How do you think Ruffalo will perform in the role? As ever, let us know in the comments below!

It’s so stupid…I just wished Norton and Marvel could’ve sorted their differences out. He was a great Bruce Banner and he was really into the role.
Glad filming is starting, I can’t wait to see photo’s and what not. I’m soooo hyped for this!
I like how Marvel have planned this movie. Connecting all the recent movies together was and is awesome. I think this will be something special!
That is good news!
Having a start date for filming makes the movie feel all that closer, ya know?
@ PatMoore. I agree. I liked Edward Norton as Bruce Banner. Guess Marvel thought it would be better to move forward with someone who was willing to play ball.
@ SabbaSimba. I too like the way they’ve done this. They’ve got themselves organised. Got the release dates of productions working as they should. Got all their actors signed up to contracts for multiple movies.
I suspect the reason behind the Batman and Superman possible revamps and the latest news regarding the Justice League movie is DC just trying to copy Marvel’s model.
