Batman: Year One the Animated Movie News – Voice Cast Announced & First Pictures Revealed!

Batman: Year One Info: Voice Cast and Pictures Inside!

As of late, Warner Bros have been supplying us with a steady stream of awesome animated features such as Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, Batman: Under the Hood and Green Lantern: First Flight and the latest one announce is an adaptation of Frank Miller’s epic Batman story, Batman: Year One.

And guess what? Not only have the first couple of images been released, but also a list of notable names that will provide voice talent…and it’s a pretty cool list!

First, a little background on Batman: Year One. As the title suggests, the story is about Bruce Wayne in his first year of being Batman. Bruce returns back to Gotham from his extensive Martial Arts and various other training overseas and sets about cleaning up the city, including the local crime families and the corrupt Gotham Police Department.

Now, lets take a look at the pictures:

Batman Year One Screen Captures

Pretty cool, right?

Well, there’s more. According to reports the primary cast will be made up of Bryan Cranston as Commissioner Gordon, Ben McKenzie as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Eliza Dushku as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Katee Sackhoff as Detective Sarah Essen (Gordon’s extramarital love interest).

My first thought is: Ben McKenzie? WTF? Isn’t it that gobshite from the OC or whatever (I’m actually ashamed at myself for knowing that)? AS FUCKING BATMAN???? Disappointed isn’t the word. Will Warner Bros never learn that they can’t have an animated Batman without Kevin Conroy doing the voice work??? That’s thrown this all up in the air for me. Of course, I’m going to watch it, but I seriously think that’s a miscast.

The others I’m pretty pleased about. I can picture Crantson as Gordon, Dushku as Catwoman and Sackhoff as Essen just fine. In fact, I think it’s good casting.

But McKenzie? WTF???

Anyways, what do you guys think? Looking forward to this? How do you think the casting list is? Please let us know in the comments section below!

Also, if you’re wondering what the hell Batman: Year One is then firstly shame on you and secondly head over amazon.com to pick it up for $8.61 – a MUST read for any Batman fan.

    no Kevin Conroy = fail.

  2. Gonzo says:

Cranston as Gordon is a pretty decent shout. But I agree on the McKenzie thing. Fuck that guy.

  3. Carmine The Bowler says:

Wow. I’d heard rumours of this, I hadn’t a clue it was this far along!

  4. KillingJoke says:

This is so cool. Batman: Year One was one of my favourite Batman stories of all time! Can’t wait for this!

Ben Mckenzie also happens to be one of the leads in the critically acclaimed cop show Southland. It airs on TNT and was recently renewed for a 4th season. Mckenzie and the rest of the cast received stellar reviews for their acting on Southland

Maybe you should check him out in that before labelling him as that actor in that gobshite from The OC. At least other boards discussing the casting of Batman: Year One are familiar with the work of the other actors in the cast.

Mckenzie also appeared in a staging of The Glass Menagerie at the Mark Taper Forum last year, opposite Judith Ivey. He also received a lot of good notices from theatre critics and audiences.
He was also in the Oscar nominated indie Junebug.

  6. The Master of Awesomeness says:

That’s fair enough, I just don’t rate the guy and don’t see him as Batman is all.

And I was familiar with Southlands – the cop show that was on NBC but go so low ratings it was dropped and TNT had to pick it up. Saw a couple of episodes, wasn’t a fan. But we can’t like all the same things can we?

If he does a great job, I guarentee I’ll be the first to change my tune.
