Matthew Vaughan Buy’s Rights to Mark Millar’s Superior

Matthew Vaughan set to bring Mark Millar's Superior to Film!

So look’s like another Mark Millar comic book is set to be adapted to a film and it’s his Kick Ass collaborator Matthew Vaughan who has once again bought the rights

“Basically, my kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn has bought the movie rights to Superior from me and Leinil Yu,” Mark Millar told CMB.com

Superior is a story about a boy who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and is one day granted a wish from an alien moneky in a spacesuit. Idolising superheroes, he wishes to be granted the abilities of a superhero and thus Superior is born.

Millar added, “Leinil and I am also teaming up with the MS Society, who want to use the character as it’s the first superhero with multiple sclerosis.”

And indeed, this team-up was confirmed in the official press release. Superior will be shared with the National MS Society to help raise awareness for the diesease, which is kinda cool.

Regarding the character Mark Millar explains, “I wanted to write about a superhero with a disability and I chose MS because it’s something that touched one of my school-friends growing up. I’m acutely aware of the unexpected way the disease can strike anyone and the enormous difficulties it can cause. Superhero stories are essentially wish-fulfilment fantasies and nothing seemed more powerful to me than a little boy with a magic wish not only wanting to WALK again, but to FLY. I’m delighted to work with such an incredible institution as the MS Society and feel privileged that they approached me to use this character in a positive way. We’re used to seeing characters with MS as victims and I wanted to do something where the kid is not only a lead, but the most powerful person on the planet. I’m really delighted people have taken this to their hearts as much as they have”.

Regarding this project, Matthew Vaughan added, “I have always enjoyed working with Mark and his latest exciting project Superior is something that we are very much looking forward to making”.

So what do you guys make of this? Think Superior will have more of an impact than Kick Ass? And speaking of Kick Ass, how will this affect the chances of Kick Ass 2 coming any time soon? Please let me know how you feel about this, in the comment section below!

  1. Kodiak Jack says:

It’s cool they’re doing this for the National MS Society an all, but Superior won’t nearly have the same impact as Kick Ass – it was nowhere near as good.

  2. Cenataur says:

I love MIllar and Yu’s work on the Superior comic, but I would much rather see Nemesis be made into a film. I know it would be a tough concept to sell, but it’s a much more interesting story all around in my opinion.

  3. The Master of Awesomeness says:

Sadly, Kodiak Jack, I feel very much the same. I just hope this doesn’t hinder the chances of Kick Ass 2!

And @ Centaur – I agree with you completely!
