With the very sad passing of the late Spartacus: Blood and Sand lead, Andy Whitfield, I find it hard to decide on what to make of the second season of the show, Spartacus: Vengeance. Sure the first season was nothing short of spectacular, but it’s always very difficult for a show to continue when the actor portraying the main character is changed for whatever reason. It’s looked upon with a certain distain and it can often signal the end of a TV Show. Of course, these are very special circumstances, but nevertheless my scepticism unbfortunately remained. For a time.
My fears soon evaporated when I learned of the existence of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (somehow, I managed to miss it the first time around). The show didn’t even feature Spartacus yet it was just as good as Spartacus: Blood and Sand. It showed me that I wanted to see more of the world the writers had carefully crafted and the actors brought to life and more: I wanted to see the Spartacus storyline pan out.
When I saw the trailer to the second season, Spartacus: Vengeance, I knew it was going to be just as watchable and intriguing as the original series. Liam McIntyre looks like he’ll fit right in portraying Spartacus and taking over the late, great Andy Whitfield’s mantle and I can’t wait for the January 27th Premiere date.
And it seems the execs over at Starz have come to the same conclusion as I, already greenlighting the show for a third season – a whole two months before the second season is set to air. Even better news is the production for this third season is scheduled to star in early 2012, so the wait between the second and third seasons might not be all that long! Awesomeo!
Now, for those of you who haven’t seen the latest Spartacus trailer check it out below!
