Star Trek 2 Production Start Date Announced and Potential Release Date Speculated

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel since watching the first reboot back in 2009 and I’m absolutely delighted the project is finally seeing some progression, with recent speculation of a potential villain hitting the rumour mills all over the interwebs and today with a production date confirmation and a potential release date.

I know a good number of Trek fans dislike, maybe even hate, the first reboot and I kinda understand where they’re coming from, however, I found the movie refreshing and highly enjoyable. I was able to put the history of the characters and the universe of Star Trek and simply enjoy it for the science fiction film it was, though granted having the foresight to read the prequel comics was a great enhancement of my enjoyment.

Regardless, it has been announced today that production on Star Trek 2 (title to yet be decided) will commence on 15th January 2012 and we can expect a release date some time around the summer of 2013. Granted, we’re still a long way from actually being able to see the movie, but I’m still counting that as good news. I truly can’t wait.
