UPDATE – An Idiot Abroad Season 3 will be the last???
Details about An Idiot Abroad Season 3 might be coming a little too soo for some people – indeed I believe season 2 is only just aiting in the US and Australia – however, for us Brits the second season ended before Christmas and naturally, we’re more than eager for more! But can anyone get enough of the K-Man Karl Pilkington? I think not…
For those people who read Ricky Gervais’ blog, you’ll know he regularly talks about his projects – concepts, progress etc. For a while, he’s been throwing around the idea of combing two of his favourite people and projects – Karl Pilkington from An Idiot Abroad/The Ricky Gervais Show and Warwick Davis from recent Extra’s-like comedy A Life’s Too short. In fact, I’ve already mentioned this concept a couple of times: in New Ricky Gervais show featuring both Warwick Davis and Karl Pilkingon in development? and Ricky Gervais Reveals Details of Rumoured Karl Pilkington/Warwick Davis Project.
Now he has a concept and what’s more he’s got Karl to agree to it. The project will be called An Idiot Abroad 3: The Short Way Round and his information comes with good and bad news. The good news is, Karl has agreed to it and it looks like it’s going to happen (hasn’t he learnt anything from his experiences from the first two seasons of An Idiot Abroad???) the bad news is it might be more of a special show rather than a series.
The concept of the show is simple: Karl Pilkington and Warwick Davis travel around to various places on a bike. Well, Karl will be on a bike and Warwick will be in the basket. Originally, this was to be set primarily around the UK but has Gervais stated on his blog, that’s not exactly the plan any more.
I can’t help but think I’ll unintentionally be “Karl” in such a situation.
Talking of which, we started planning the route for An Idiot Abroad 3: The Short Way Round, this week.
It’s only a two-part special but we’ve decided to make it a bit more global as opposed to “around Kent for a few days”.
Karl is starting to regret it all ready.
Karl is already worrying about what will happen during the journey. Gervais says:
He’s worried about going round the world with Warwick in the basket of a bike, by the way. (It’s strange that I would think that last sentence needed “by the way” at the end of it.)
He said, “what if he goes down and I’ve got to carry him?”
‘Goes down?’ Like they’re in Nam. I’m looking into having the bike built. Needs to be reinforced and safe obviously.
Oh, another interesting theory of Karl’s is that Warwick, even though he is 3ft 6, is actually still the same weight as an average sized person. “He’s just been squashed.” Yes Karl. Of course he has.

Just a special and not a series – disappointed. But at least there’s a third outing for Karl! Yay!
I think they should let Karl be the puppet master now. Let him get his revenge, first on stephen, then on ricky. I’d watch the shit out of that.

Wouldnt do this show. It’s not even close to the first 2 seasons cause they were hilarious. Send Karl on survival trips with bear grylls or something.. That would be interesting in my opinion
Oddly enough, as I was watching the 2nd series, I thought about what he would do next … my idea was ‘Wrong Way Round’. As with the original series ‘Long Way Round’, except Karl has to travel the world passing through shitty countries on rubbish transport without visas or planning… and obviously Ricky and co. throw a million spanners in the works en route. And, well, they’ve come up with a similar idea.
I think Karl is just funny in any situation. He should be on every show.

Stephen always got the shit end from Karl, and Steve defended karl a lot, it should be just Karl vs. Ricky, in an annoy-off.

I absolutely love Karl and want to see him EVERY week. Another season of An Idiot Abroad would be great but I will watch anything with Karl in it. He makes me laugh out loud as no one else does. I adore him. PLEASE KEEP KARL ON TV IN CANADA!!!

Can’t wait, but I would have preferred a proper season 3 of IA. don’t really like the idea of this new “special” as Warwick does my head in. Come on Ricky do a proper Idiot Abroad 3!!!!
This man is hilarious. No matter what situation you put him in, he will never fail to entertain…Can’t wait for series 3 but what I really want to know is….”Can I hire him next time I’m down?”. You could never be down in the same room as him. Great sport considering what he has to go through but never loses his sense of humor throughout it all.
Ricky G is obsessive about only making 2 series of whatever he does (because of Fawlty Towers). He then makes a special (either 1 or 2 parter). This WILL be the end of Idiot Abroad. However it does NOT mean the end of KP. It just means the end of Idiot Abroad.
Hopefully Putting Warwick in the show won’t destroy the entire concept – but sadly Warwick didn’t seem to have a comic talent in Life’s too short.
Maybe he will prove me wrong this time!

I am a personal friend of Warwick Davis and his family.. Warwick is a warm and intelligent person and despite his height, has achieved wonderful things. I am not a fan of Ricky Gervais, nor Karl and feel this is a very distasteful program. Ricky is intelligent and witty and his taking advantage of people who are obviously challenged in some way is gross. I am happy for Warwick and the work and exposure he is getting. Warwick is head and shoulders above both Gervais and Karl in both intellect and personality. Too bad Ricky can’t get the kind of exposure he needs in his professional life without exploiting others.
