At first, a lot of people were a little sceptical of Ridley Scott’s plans for Prometheus. When first discussing the movie back in April 2010, Scott not only stated that the movie would be about “gods and engineers” but also mused “…were the aliens designed as a form of biological warfare? Or biology that would actually go in and clean up a planet?” This, understandably, concerned the fans of the cult science fiction – why mess with the Alien legacy?
But as more and more information came out about the movie, it became quite clear to us all that the idea had changed. What was once dubbed the ‘alien prequel’ was evolving in its own right. Sure, it’s set in the Alien universe but the Alien universe at the very beginning was never just about the black armoured killing machines – it just grew into that mostly thanks to the sequels.
So is revisiting the Alien universe therefore such a bad thing? Judging from all the information we’ve seen so far – fuck no. From the trailers we shared back in February right to the fantastical 3 minute short of Guy Pearce portraying his Peter Weyland Prometheus character at a 2023 TED conference (which he knocks right out of the fucking park BTW) to even the simply breathtaking images on the Weyland Industries website.
Well now we have yet another reason to think that Prometheus will not only be a great science fiction flick in it’s own right, but possibly be one the movies of the year is the new Official HD trailer which reveals even more of the awesomeness that is very definitely in store for us. Check it out – it’s a must:
Are you convinced yet? I am. Personally, I don’t much care whether the classic aliens will be involved in the movie. I don’t care if it’s set in the same Alien universe. I just see a fantastical looking Science Fiction that I’m just DYING to see.
The movie will be released in the UK on 1st June and in the US on 8th June.
What about you? Do you think Prometheus will be an awesome science fiction flick in it’s own right? Do you care whether there will or won’t be Aliens in this movie? Are you with me on this?
