A-HA! The Alan Partridge Update! News on the impending movie – just what will it all be about? Also, I have a trailer for the new Alan Partridge TV Show right here!

Ah-ha! I'm Alan Partridge!

That’s right, we have an update on the impending Alan Partridge movie – who will Alan finding himself fighting in the movie??? Also, we have a trailer for impending new Alan Partridge show ‘Alan Partridge: Welcome to the Places of My Life’ and it looks awesome! Check it out!

Alan Partridge is one of those comedy character’s that never gets old. I remember finding him hilarious in my early teens when he first hit the screens in the moch news show ‘The Day Today’ in 1994 and his moch chat show ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge’ in the same year. However, it wasn’t until the TV series ‘I’m Alan Partridge’ that the character hit his stride for me. Steve Coogan, the creator and actor behind the character, mastered the art of ‘cringe comedy’ the kind you might find in something like ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ (which in fact Coogan guest starred in 2007 as Dr Bright).

For those new to the character, Coogan’s portrayal of a semi-failed minor celebrity struggling in the big bad world of the media and light entertainment, might not seem the fantasically funny comedy character I’m making him out to be at first glance. Coogan’s clever portrayal of the character has many layers and the more layers you peel back, the funnier Alan becomes.

For years, Coogan stopped portraying the character whilst he focuses on his career in Hollywood (and no doubt not wanting to feel typecast or tied down by the character) and that’s why I’m so excited for the movie and the impending TV projects I mentioned in last months Alan Partridge post.

However, the movie has been teased for quite some time but nothing ever came of it. Indeed, when the idea was banded around afresh last year as I posted about and there was definite noise about the movie definitely happening, i was still a little dubious about the whole affair. Especially since nothing seemingly happened on the project for quite some time.

But the movie is happening and judging from a recent article in on the British news website The Independant, Alan Partridge will do battle against a media giant in the impending movie.

The article interviews the long term writer for Alan Partridge and indeed co-writer for the movie, Armando Iannucci (writer of movie In The Loop amongst other things) who reveals the movie “will see Partridge taking objection when his local digital TV channel is taken over and renamed Shape.”

The article also suggests that the plot comes partly from Coogan’s own troubles with News International regarding phone hacking, whom he sued and settled the case with earlier this year.

Iannucci goes on to alievate certain fears about the movie’s plot, confiirming “Alan is in Norwich.

“It’s not ‘Alan goes to Hollywood’; it’s not ‘Alan invaded by aliens’ or anything like that.

“He’s on North Norfolk Digital, which is taken over by a bigger media conglomerate and has it’s name changed to Shape.

“And that kicks everything off.”

Interesting right? I can’t wait to see Partridge on the big screen – but the question is, when will that be? In the article, Iannucci confirms that the script was still being finalised and they’re looking to go into production late this year or early 2013! Awesomeo!

And that bring us onto Coogan’s deal with Sky Atlantic to also bring Partridge to UK TV screens and the first trailer for such a show has landed and I have it right here! Check it out!

What do you think? Are you looking forward to the Alan Partridge movie? Like the sound of the plot? Looking forward to having Partridge back on your TV screen? Like what you saw of the trailer? Will you be watching the show? Please let me know what you think in the comments section below – I’d love to hear from you!
