That’s right! News has broke that Marvel’s secret 2014 movie will in fact be Guardians of the Galaxy! Can you say awesomeo?
If so, do so!
The rumours about Guardians of the Galaxy being developed by Marvel have been circulating for quite some time, but recently with a number of Guardians of the Galaxy trademarks being snapped up the rumours have been given a little more creedence, leading up to today where The Latino Review have officially got the scoop – The Guardians of the Galaxy IS definitely being made and it’s coming in 2014!
As they’ve said:
Marvel’s plan has been 2 superhero movies in their Unified Film Universe each year. Next year will bring us the new entries into the ‘Thor’ and ‘Iron Man’ and 2014 will bring us ‘Captain America 2′ and…
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
Not sure about the source? Well you oughta be. After all, they were the ones who flagged up Thano’s making an appearance in The Avengers movie – over a year before it was released!
And it makes damned good sense too since Thanos was revealed to be the main player in the latest batch of interrelated Marvel movies. The Guardians of the Galaxy have dealt with the villain numerous times in the past and the movie just slots right into place.
So, what can we expect?
- It will be announced as Marvel’s second 2014 movie at Comic Con
- Thanos is in it.
- It will “lead up to” The Avengers 2 in 2015.
- “THE SCRIPT IS INCREDIBLE”
One: The end credits scene at the end of The Avengers was both a teaser for ‘Avengers 2′ AND ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’
Two: The Guardians being added to the Unified Universe means the theorhetical chronological order of Marvel Unified Movie Universe Phase 2 is: ‘Iron Man 3′ ‘Thor 2′ ‘Captain America 2′ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ Hulk gets the shaft.
Three: If I were to point you in the direction of a comic to read to theorize what Guardians of the Galaxy would be about, I’d suggest you go buy The Thanos Imperative
.
Four: Nova. Expect Nova. There’s got to be a reason that Nova keeps showing up in stuff like Disney’s Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s AvX. He’s not a Guardian per se, but he’s the most recognizable Marvel space character to the all-important “we’re young and buy toys” demographic.
So The Thanos Imperative may be the closest Guardians of the Galaxy storyline to the movie? If you’ve not read or don’t own the book, check out the below awesome deals. Seriously, you need this book in your life.
What is the Thanos Imperative you ask? Here’s a quick Wikipedia Info Dump for ya:
The story focuses on the cosmic, or space-based, heroes of the Marvel Universe, who band together to combat the imminent threat of the Fault—a rift in space-time formed at the end of “War of Kings”—and the Cancerverse that lies beyond it—a universe where death itself is extinct.
I really got to liking The Guardians of the Galaxy during Dan Abnett’s run during the Annihilation War, but more recently the Thanos Imperative (as mentioned above). It was frickin’ awesome! I like it because it combines the two geek things I lobve the most – comic books and science fiction!
What do you think? Will Guardians of the Galaxy work? What will be the line-up? Who would you like to see in the movie? Please let me know what you think of this in the comments section below – I’d love to hear your opinion!
