That’s right – it has confirmed! Thor: The Dark World gets its villain! Check it out!
In my opinion, the Marvel movies leading up to the fantastical Avengers movies were all very good. It’s difficult to pick out any faults with any of them, with the possible exception of The Incredible Hulk, though maybe that’s because Joss Whedon’s writing of the HUlk character and Mark Ruffalo’s portrayal of Bruce Banner was so breathtaking it reflects badly on the previous films.
Regardless, the first Thor movie was very good. Probably my favourite out of the bunch. I thought Kenneth Branagh’s glimpse of the Asgardian Thunder God perfectly captured the essense of the character and often leant that edge to the character that I sometimes find lacking in the comic books.
Despite Kenneth Branagh not being a part of the sequel, Thor: The Dark World, the movie is already shaping up well. All of the principle cast return, with the exception of Josh Dallas – that role reverts back to Chuck star Zachary Levi to play the Fandral character. Levi was said to have landed the role in teh first movie, but had to pull out when Chuck got a surprise fifth and final season. All of this will be under the helm of the very capable Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor and I truly believe Thor: The Dark World will be one hell of a ride and may even be able to surpass the first movie.
And things are just getting better for the movie. Today, the villain of the movie has been announced as well as the actor playing him. That character? Malekith The Accursed. The actor? Only former Dr Who star Christopher Eccleston! Aweosmeo!
Who is Malekith The Accursed?
Have no idea who Malekith The Accursed is? Don’t worry, the character escapes even the diehard of Marvel fans (some at least). Malekith The Accursed is the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfhei and in the comic books is a sworn enemy of Thor and an ally of Loki (so I guess we can look for that team up to happen in the movies too). Want to know more? Check out the character’s Wikipedia page.
So…what do you think? Looking forward to Thor 2? Will Malekith The Accursed make a good villain? Will Eccleston make a good Malekith? Let me know what you think in the comments section below – it’d be awesome to hear from you!
