It is in this that we learn that they are part of a penal regiment, that the power’s at be have recruited to fight Thanos at all cost. This incorporates the ex-con description. This fight is swayed when a fierce female warrior, Gamora, arrives on to bolster Thanos’ forces. The battle is lost in the massive destruction that Gamora deals to her enemies, and so the ex-cons must find a way to flee the planet. They find a ship, and set off. However, in they’re escape they come across another fleeing figure, Adam Warlock. Warlock will serve as the “precious cargo” that the team is mentioned to have to protect. He is precious due to his possession of the Soul Infinity Gem. It will be revealed now that simple destruction is not the only reason Thanos has for this war, he is also looking for the Infinity Gems to complete the Infinity Gauntlet (which he got from the Thor 2 extra end scene where Loki steals it for him from Odin’s Vault). They are then hunted by Thanos, and Gamora.
