That’s right, the Avengers sequel will have a bigger roster and Whedon hints at just who that character may be! Check it out!
Earlier this month, I revealed that Joss Whedon had been officially confirmed to write and direct the Avengers sequel. Good news, right?
Today, reports are emerging all around the internet of an interview the great man himself did in Japan regarding the Avengers sequel and what fans can expect.
In that interview, not only did Whedon confirm the second movie will be of a smaller scale and more personal, but he also said that he wants the Avengers team to be a little bigger – by at least one member.
Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man is happening apparently, what about him? Ant-Man was, after all, a founding member of the Avengers? Or War Machine perhaps? The character has already played integral parts of both of the Iron Man movies and there have already been rumours of his inclusion in the Avengers sequel.
But maybe it’s somebody else entirely. In the interview, Whedon also name drops another founding Avenger. Who? The Wasp, that’s who.
First off, Whedon doesn’t specifically state that the Wasp character will be in the sequel. He doesn’t even mention her in the same part of the interview. He just mentions the fact that The Wasp was almost in the first Avengers movie, she just didn’t make the cut.
Whedon was seriously considering the Wasp character in The Avengers movie. He had an idea what he wanted to do with the character, but he just couldn’t run with it because there was too much to cram into the movie.
It could mean that Whedon intends to use these ideas in the sequel and make The Wasp an additional member of the team.
Do you want to see the team expand for the sequel or are you happy with the way it is? If you want ot see more Avengers, who do you want to see? Who is your ideal Avengers team? Is The Wasp a good addition? Let me know what you think in the comments section below – it’d be awesome to hear your opinion!

Spider man. Spider man has always been one of my favorite marvel characters. I think there may be a chance since they used the same ‘after-credits’ clip as they did in all of the avengers movies thus far. There would probably be a Spider man two first, but my hopes are for our friendly neighborhood Spider man to join the Avengers for their second go at the big screen!
-P.S. Probably going to be Ant man though.
Spider-Man is a decent call actually. I read an article a while back linking Garfield to the role, but with Sony owning the rights to the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, it was highly unlikely to happen.
Wasp would just make the movie cheesy. Personally, I also think black widow didn’t fit too well with the rest of the team with her two pistols, and no powers what so ever. She just looked ridiculous fighting along side Earths Mightiest Heroes. Wasp wouldn’t be any better, prob even way worse. I mean honestly Thor, Hulk, Iron man and Cap are like the best and most powerful heroes in the marvel universe, and then they through in Black Widow just so they could put a girl on the team. But I think the idea of a Ant Man movie could be pretty sick. Picture the microscopic world that someone like Joss Whedon could create. Remember when Honey I shrunk the kids came out and how awesome the special effects were at the time. Now picture a new Ant Man movie with today’s technology and how awesome it could be if done right.
p.s. By the way I loved The Avengers, and Joss Whedon rocks (Firefly/Serenity is my favorite). I still think that Black Widow is Joss Whedon’s least believable female character when it comes to action, every time Scarlett came on screen I just couldn’t believe she could beat up anybody.
