I too heard many rumors as to why but the truth of the matter was Naylor just couldn&#039;t raise the money to get it into production. He&#039;s quite open about this in a number of interviews, but I&#039;m glad to see that some of the script will make it into series 10.

Oh just a slight technical point, &#039;Back to Earth&#039; shouldn&#039;t be referred to as series 9 given that the events within it take place after series 10. Naylor has said that BTE was created to test audience interest and raise money to produce a series 10, but that he would never make a series 9.
