That’s right, in a recent interview with MTV, Joss Whedon discusses James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy! Check it out!
Guardians of the Galaxy. Arguably the next Marvel film I’m looking forward to the most. Even more than Thor? Yes. Even more than Thor. I loved the first Thor film, but The Guardians of the Galaxy
is something else. Something different. Something more spectacular.
I’m a fan of the recent Guardians of the Galaxy series and more of a fan of the formulative storyline’s seen in Annihilation and Annihilation: Conquest. All mostly set in outser space and all mostly expansive, thought-provoking space opera’s. Therefore, my imagination is entirely encaptured by the thought of the movie and because I’m already more than familiar with all the character’s involved, I’m REALLY excited about the ecclectic mix which is apparently the confirmed (judging by the above concept art as seen at Comic-Con) roster for the movie.
I was pleased to hear that James Gunn was working on the movie. I appeciated his work (especially on Super) and really think he can make a good movie based on the material.
So what did the current figurehead of the Marvel movie universe, Joss Whedon, have to say about James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy? Well…at first he was a little sceptical.
“I myself was sort of like, ‘Well, I liked Rocket Raccoon as a kid, but I’m not sure how that plays [to a wider audience],” Whedon explained. “And then they said, ‘Well, we’re thinking about using James Gunn.’ And I said, ‘Oh, then no, you’re fine.’ He is so off-the-wall, and so crazy, but so smart, such a craftsman and he builds from his heart. He loves the raccoon. Needs the raccoon.”
“He has a very twisted take on it, but it all comes from a real love for the material. It’s going to be hard for the humans to keep up. I know he’s going to come from left field and I’m going to go, ‘What?’ And then, ‘Of course, why didn’t I think of that?’ And then I’m going to beat him!”
Awesome, right? What do you think? Is James Gunn the right man for the job? Are you looking forward to the movie? Let me know in the comments section below – it’d be awesome to hear your opinion!
