That’s right, Joss Whedon talks a little more about the much anticipated S.H.I.E.L.D TV series and says the show will feature new characters. Check it out!
But there’s more. Not only will the show feature new characters, but it also won’t feature any characters from the exisiting Marvel movie universe:
“It’s new characters. It needs to be its own thing,” Whedon told MTV Splashpage. “It needs to be adjacent [to the Marvel Comics Universe] but you don’t want to do a show where you’re constantly going, ‘Iron Man just left, but he was totally here a minute ago.’ You want them to do their own thing.”
Fair point, I feel.
Well, what does S.H.I.E.L.D have that the other superheroes don’t? And that, to me, is that they’re not superheroes,” he continued. “But they live in that universe. Even though they’re a big organization, that [lack of powers] makes them underdogs, and that’s interesting to me.”
Hmmm. I hate reading in between the lines, but that sentence really intrigued me. Let’s look at it for a second: Even though they’re a big organization, that [lack of powers] makes them underdogs, and that’s interesting to me.
Would that not imply that the characters in Whedon’s new S.H.I.E.L.D show will be dealing with super powered threats? After all, in the comic books that’s pretty much what the organization does do. If this is the concept that Whedon finds interesting, will we not be seeing the men and women of S.H.I.E.L.D pitted against some super villain goodness?
What do you think? Will there be a clear supervillain (or even misunderstood hero) threat in the S.H.I.E.L.D series? Or am I reading too much into the sentence? Let me know what you think in the comments section below – it’d be awesome to hear your opinion!
