An Idiot Abroad Season 3 and Derek Updates!

Ricky Gervais unveils trailer for new show "Learn English"

That’s right – there’s news An Idiot Abroad Season 3 and Derek update circulating around the interwebs and I have it right here for you! Check it out!

An Idiot Abroad Season 3

I’m not sure whether everyone knows this or not, but Ricky Gervais has a regular column over at The Huffington Post. Cool, huh? Well today, in his latest column, Gervais has shared some awesome An Idiot Abroad Season 3 news – as well as some thoughts on his impending new show Derek.

So where’s An Idiot Abroad season 3 up to? According to Gervais, “…finished editing the An Idiot Abroad Specials. Three one-hour episodes. Out in December.”

Okay, so we alreayd knew season 3 wasn’t going to be a full season – it was going to be a special. That’s hardly news. It’s the ending of that sentence that got me. Yes. You read it right. The next installment of An Idiot Abroad will be hitting our screens this December.

Or Will It?

The article sadly doesn’t go into much detail as to the air date. Historically, the show has aired in the UK many months before the US. However, with the growing popularity of the show, and indeed Karl Pilkington, and considering the primary readership of the Huffington Post is in the US, perhaps this season will see the show will air around the same as the UK? Here’s hoping.

What Can We Expect?

“The first episode is funny but quite gentle — almost like a real travel documentary,” explains Gervais. “The second episode starts heating up when the arguing starts. And episode three is fucking mental, and definitely the best episode of all the series so far.”

Of all the series. That’s some bold statement, Gervais.

“It gets quite brutal under all the pressure,” he continues, “but it’s an amazing view. Karl also asked one of the most stupid questions ever. He actually said to Warwick at one point, ‘Do you have knees?’ Amazing.”

Sounds entirely awesome. I can’t wait.

Now for Derek

For those unfamiliar with Gervais latest UK TV project, I’d suggest you take a look at an article I wrote a couple of months back reagrding the show. The pilot of the show has already been aired as an hour long special and on the strength of the excellent critical reviews and viewing figures, a 30 minute episode series was commissioned by UK’s Channel 4 (in conjunction with HBO in the US, I believe).

So What’s the Status of the Series?

“Finished principal photography on Derek,” Gervais says, “Quiet simply the best shoot I’ve ever been a part of.”

Okay. So what about air dates?

“I’m doing a few chat shows too — Ellen, Conan, Fallon… and also, I’m handing out a couple of gongs at The Emmys. Also I’ll announce where America will be able to see the first series of Derek.”

Cool huh? Are you excited for the new season of An Idiot Abroad? Are you sad that it’s going to be the last season? Also, what about Derek? Are you looking forward to see that too? Let me know in the comments section below – it’d be awesome to hear from you!
