Rumour: New Batman Reboot to be Based on Batman: Arkham Asylum? Will be set in Justice League Universe?

That’s right – the latest rumour to be banded around in regards to the Batman movie reboot heading our way in 2016 is that The Joker will be in the movie and the plot will be based on Batman: Arkham Asylum.

So what’s the rumour? Where did it come from?

The rumour comes from Cosmic Book News who claim that their source in the know has told them “there are some “mumblings” around Warner Bros. that they may want the Batman reboot based on the popular Batman: Arkham Asylum video game, and that this would be set in the same world as the Justice League movie.”

Validity to the Claims?

At this point, it’s doubtful whether there IS any validity to such an awesome claim. Not only is the “source” sketchy at best but there’s no evidence their source has leaked anything else of much use. Also, even if the source IS correct it just looks to me like the Warner Bros exec’s throwing ideas around as to where they want to go with the movie.

In regards to being set in the same universe as the Justice League…that seems kinda plausible to me. Warner Bros are looking at the success Marvel have had with their recent bout of movies and are recognising the awesomeness there in…and the potential to make a lot of money also. If they’re not looking at that they they need to have a long hard look at themselves and their marketing plan.

Excited?

To say I want this to happen is something of an understatement. I absolutely LOVE the Batman: Arkham Asylum game (and it’s sequel, Arkham City). It weaves a great story and the game play is excellent. If the essence of the game could be translated to a movie, it would be awesome.

Also, if the movie WAS based on the game it would contain a good number of Batman’s villains and wouldn’t necessarily have to re-do the origin story all over again – which I genuinely don’t think a reboot needs. He’s Batman. We all know how and why it happened, let’s just get to story!
