That’s right! I have the Doctor Who Christmas 2012 teaser trailer right here for ya! Check it out!
I have to admit, for the longest time I was dubious about Doctor Who. As a science fiction geek, that just sounds plain wrong and perhaps a little unexpected. But it’s true.
The first wave of Doctor Who passed me by and I had no inclination to go back and revisit the series. And then the BBC brought it back in 2005. As a geek and hanging out in geek circles, I’d heard other people talk about the show so fondly and most were so excited to see the show return, the excitement rubbed off on me.
Then I heard that Christopher Eccleston had been brought on as the Doctor and I was sold. I love Eccleston. I’ve appreciated his work for years.
I was determined to try it out. It was a science fiction show, I had to, right? It’s the law. The Geek law.
I’m sorry to say, I didn’t like what I saw.
It just wasn’t the kind of show I was used to seeing and for a science fiction show, it just seemed…stupid. Manikin’s coming to life and attacking the Doctor? Jesus. It looked the same tired old trick my dad tried at parties which everyone hated with a friends false arm.
Don’t worry, I didn’t just stop there. I watched the second episode too, thinking the show just had a weak start. It still didn’t do a thing for me.
Meanwhile, the rest of my geek friends were flipping out over it and I was starting to think there was something fundamentally wrong with my brain. I wanted to like the show soooo much, I just couldn’t. I was too stupid for me. Bad idea’s and ridiculous creatures and situations.
It wasn’t until last season of the show, that I had a change of heart about the whole affair. I caught one of the shows and I hav to admit, I was pretty much hooked. Th writing seemed better. The concepts seemed better. The real drama seemed better. Maybe I caught a couple of bad episodes when the show restarted? I don’t know.
But I’ve been watching the show ever since.
This season has been coming on leaps and bounds and the last episode, The Angels Take Manhattan, was as brilliant as it was saddening (I won’t go into anymore details just in case any of you haven’t watched it yet).
And you know what? I can’t wait for the christmas special.
And you know what? I have a teaser trailer for it right here. Check it out.
