Moriarty Actor Rules out Sherlock Season 3 Return

Moriarty Actor Rules out Return for Season 3

That’s right – Moriarty actor Andrew Scott very definitely rules out the return of the villain for the third season of BBC’s excellent Sherlock.

Sherlock ended on a cliffhanger that fans are still trying to work out to this day. Sherlock Holmes himself appeared to die, but seen fine and well in the closing scene. With that kind of twist, it can therefore be understood why fans also expected the villain of the piece, Moriarty, returning for the third season.

He too appeared to die in the season 2 cliffhanger by shooting himself in the head, but after Sherlock’s elaborate death is it really so strange that Moriarty may have faked his own death too?

A number of fans, including myself, were very much open to this possibility, but now we can put an end to that.

In a recent interview promoting his new TV show, The Town, the actor portraying Moriarty ruled out his possible return.

“Moriarty is dead,” he adamantly stated. “I don’t think there could have been any better exit for a character like that.”

“I feel very proud of Sherlock. Moriarty was a very potent character and one the audience really responded to. But it’s important to me that he doesn’t take over. You have to take risks and play as many different things as possible.”

He makes a valid point – what do you think? Let me know in the comments below – it’d be awesome to hear your opinion!

My only questions about Sherlock’s death was that the ruse seemed contingent on Watson hitting his head when the guy on the bicycle knocked him over and being just loopy enough to not notice things. And if that was a cadaver provided by Molly or if after landing in the truck (with all the soft bags that then drives off) Sherlock himself lept to the ground with some sort of blood pack for his head (provided by Molly). The second seems more likely as if he played it up, falling into the truck then falling to the ground, witnesses might not be surprised that he cracked his head open. Whereas someone throwing a body out of a truck…

Sherlock at one point tells molly he needs her help with something…obviously this was it
