First Footage of World War Z Released

That’s right – the first footage from the World War Z movie has been released and I have it right here for you! Check it out!

Stand Out

In an age where the Zombie sub-genre has flooded most mediums, the Max Brooks World War Z movie stood out. Even from The Walking Dead, this book stood out for me.

It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what made Brooks’ work stand out. Perhaps it was becase it was written from multiple perspectives? Maybe because unlike most Zombie stories, it’s being told after the Human race had already won the battle for survival. Or maybe it’s just because the book is really that good.

In any case, when I first heard about the books transition to the big screen I was hyped.

Set Backs

Was being the operative word.

Since the announcement of the movie, a number of set backs have set back the movie’s release date and more worryingly the official synopsis of the movie doesn’t much resemble the source material.

“A U.N. employee (Pitt) is racing against time and fate, as he travels the world trying to stop the outbreak of a deadly Zombie pandemic.”

Hmmm. Not the best news for me, but that was only the start of the problems.

The movie was originally set to be released this coming December, getting a tough date near The Hobbit and Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained.

But in March, the studio decided to push the movie back 6 months. Why? At first it wasn’t clear. I half suspected the studio were not confident with the movie enough to put up against the likes of The Hobbit and Django Unchained, but later the real reason was revealed.

The script was undergoing a number of rewrites. At this point, I think it’s safe to say the likelihood of this movie resembling the book is nothing less than far fetched.

The Brightside

But there is a brightside. The studio hired none other than Damon Lindelof to handle the rewrites so at least we might get a watchable movie.

But there’s more. Now the first footage from the movie has been released and it looks awesome. Check it out:

What do you think?

Will this movie be close to Max Brooks’ book? Will the movie even be watchable? Will you go to the cinema to watch this when it finally does come out? Let me know what you think in the comments below – it’d be awesome to hear your opinion!

You’re an idiot if you get all wet at the thought of Lindelof being hired for rewrites. And, seriously? That I Am Legend CGI crap looks ‘awesome’ to you ?

  2. admin says:

Why? Lindelof is a good writer. Prometheus was an awesome movie. Lost was an awesome show.

The clip does look good to me too. Granted, it’s not going to be good as the book or even the Walking Dead Tv show, but it has potential to be a good movie imho.

Ok, I love the book, infact I love everything Max Brooks does. But the movie seems awsome so far. I mean, I dont think the story of the book would be a great movie, maybe a documentary on tv, but I think this looks really promising. Brad Pitt is a great actor and thousands of running zombies cant go wrong. Hopefully the movie have plenty of action, blood and wicked zombie slaughter.. Can’t wait!! Maybe they could do two movies, first this about the Great Panic, then the other one about turning the tide and afterwards..

Oh and I really really hope they keep the battle of Yonkers and the scene when they play The Trooper while fighting. That would be great!!

  4. admin says:

I hope they keep that in too, Jenny!

I also heard on the grapevine the studio are thinking about turning this into a trilogy depending on the success of the first.

  5. Wels says:

The trailer is terrible, I am still undecided if the zombies move like ants or a liquid. Poor CGI. Besides that, too much CGI, too little make up and real actors / extras. Continuity problems are massive and break immersion. The movie is too much deviated from the source.
You ask what makes the book so good? Its knowing you are after the fact, then having to fuel your curiosity to find the details that led the society we know to the society they ended up living.
And…. really? Prometheus a good movie? Whatchable yes, but far from the source. The crew and its “professional” approach to their mission is weak, it lacks suspense and terror, things the original scored with less effects and more ambiance.
