Ridley Scott is adapting Joe Haldeman’s Forever War and the project has just landed a new writer! Awesomeo!
Forever War by Joe Haldeman is all time sci-fi classic. It’s one of my favourite novels of all time. I read a number of times over the years and the more I read it, the more I’m impressed.
For those of you who haven’t read the novel, the story follows a soliders account of a seemingly pointless interstealla war between humans and an alien race. To quote wikipedia, “Its exploration of the inhumanity of war and of bureaucracy, and of the psychological effects resulting from the time dilation of space travel.”
To hear that Ridley Scott is adapting the book to movie is fantastical and today’s reports that a new screenwriter has been found to pen the project is also fantastical. It means that the project is actually forging ahead.
The screenwriter hired to pen the script is Dante Harper, who seemingly has just come onto the Hollywood writing scene, penning forthcoming Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters movie (starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton) as well as Tom Cruise’s upcoming sci-fi flick All You Need is Kill.
Scott was finally able to gain rights to Joe Haldeman’s book back in 2008, apparently after 25 years of waiting and is more than a little eager to start shooting movie in 3D.
Is Scott the right choice to make this movie? Do you think he’ll do a good job? Do you think the story will work cinematically? Is Dante Harper a good choice to writer the movie? Let me know what you think in the comments below – it’d be awesome to hear your opinions!
