The Walking Dead is just one of those stories that hit the markets at the right time. It successfully capitalised on the Zombie trend and then went above and beyond the genre, freshened it up and added a healthy dose of sheer awesomeness.
The franchise has now spread over a number of mediums, beginning with the fantastical comic books, emerging as an increasingly popular AMC TV show and also enjoying success in the fiction novel medium.
Here, I have put together a definitive list of all The Walking Dead gifts a devoted fan could ever possibly want. Check it out, but be warned what you’ll find below is awesome.

The starting place for The Walking Dead was Robert Kirkman/Tony Moore/Charlie Adlard created comic book, first published in 2003.
As soon as I read the first issue of the comic book, I was hooked. The writing, story and the art had a way of hooking me and created a rare compulsion within me to read each and every issue of the epic series.
If you’re a fan of the TV show, but haven’t yet encountered the comic books, below is the list for you. I promise you, even if you’re not a comic book person one read of this comic book and you’ll be hooked for life.
The Rise of The Governor is a fiction novel written by the comic book creator Robert Kirkman and author Jay Bonansinga and center’s around The Governor’s territory within the suburbs of Atlanta – Woodbury.
The storyline in which the main characters are involved with the town of Woodbury is currently the center of the third season of the TV show, but appeared in the comic book some time ago. This story, however, can be viewed as something as a prequel and fills in some of the details both the Comic Book and the TV show missed about how the Governor actually rose to power.
In the Walking Dead universe, there is no greater villain than The Governor. The despot who runs the walled-off town of Woodbury, he has his own sick sense of justice: whether it’s forcing prisoners to battle zombies in an arena for the townspeople’s amusement, or chopping off the appendages of those who cross him. The Governor was voted “Villain of the Year” by Wizard magazine the year he debuted, and his story arc was the most controversial in the history of the Walking Dead comic book series. Now, for the first time, fans of The Walking Dead will discover how The Governor became the man he is, and what drove him to such extremes.
The Road to Woodbury is the follow to “The Rise of The Governer” and once again focuses on that specific area of The Walking Dead story.
As the official synopsis reveals:
The zombie plague unleashes its horrors on the suburbs of Atlanta without warning, pitting the living against the dead. Caught in the mass exodus, Lilly Caul struggles to survive in a series of ragtag encampments and improvised shelters. But the Walkers are multiplying. Dogged by their feral hunger for flesh and crippled by fear, Lilly relies on the protection of good Samaritans by seeking refuge in a walled-in town once known as Woodbury, Georgia.
At first, Woodbury seems like a perfect sanctuary. Squatters barter services for food, people have roofs over their heads, and the barricade expands, growing stronger every day. Best of all, a mysterious self-proclaimed leader named Philip Blake keeps the citizens in line. But Lilly begins to suspect that all is not as it seems. . . . Blake, who has recently begun to call himself The Governor, has disturbing ideas about law and order.
Ultimately, Lilly and a band of rebels open up a Pandora’s box of mayhem and destruction when they challenge The Governor’s reign . . . and the road to Woodbury becomes the highway to hell.
