As most will already know, Joss Whedon’s The Avengers this year received an Academy Award Nomination in the category of visual effects. And why wouldn’t it? It was fucking awesome.
Here, I have have the visual effects highlight reel from the movie which will be submitted for voting – check it out!
I came to a realisation over Christmas. I finally managed to scrape together enough time to re-watch all my favourite movies from year in an attempt to decide whether my first-impression rankings of them had changed.
Before the big re-watch, I ranked The Dark Knight Rises over the Avengers for the number 1 and 2 spots respectively. After the big re-watch, my opinion switched around.
Both movies are awesome, I just feel I’ll be re-watching The Avengers a helluva lot more than The Dark Knight Rises.
There, I said it. Confession made.
So you can see why I’m so glad that the film got one Oscar nomination this year. The visual effects of the movie were excellent and I think the Hulk alone will win them the votes, but if not there are plenty of other effects the movie can boast.
The reel below is the reel that will be sent to the voters – check it out!
The Avengers will face tough competition, however, being pitted against The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Life of Pi, Prometheus and, um, Snow White and the Huntsman.
Which movie do you think deserves to win this Academy Award? What do you think of The Avengers visual effects? Think the movie can win this oscar? Let me know what you think in the comments below – it’d be awesome to hear what you have to say!
