It’s that time of year again, or at least it’s getting there.

Christmas: that fantastical time of year where society actually encourages you to eat and drink as much as you possibly can.

As I write this, the rest of street is already clad with shiny baubels and spectcularly colourful lights. A little premature perhaps, but at least they’re organised. Which is more than I can say for me.

As usual, I’ve left my gift purchasing till late, however, I must admit in starting to comtemplate appropriate gift ideas much earlier than last year (the day before Christmas Eve) – that’s gotta count for something, right?

So I’ve compiled a list of awesomeness gifts to buy my geek friends (some of which I might just buy myself too…) and it would be remiss of me not to share it with you all. You’ve built a website and you’re damned proud of it. You’ve got a great product to sell or you have great content you’re just dying to share with the world, but there’s just one problem: you’re getting no traffic.

The simple truth of it is, no matter how good a product or a website or content is if people don’t know it’s there then they won’t be able to see it. The solution? Well, the solution is just as simple as the problem: you have to get people to see it.

First of all, I’m no expert in this field. My knowledge of the subject has picked up mainly building this website and trying to drive traffic towards it myself. There is something of a learning curve to this practice and I’m picking up new and exciting methods each and every day. I can only speak from experience when I say the main method I consider to be the backbone of the solution and has brought me the most results are backlinks.

I have a confession to make: I’m already working on GeekZenith 2.0.

I’m a perfectionist, what can I say? It comes in as both a great advantage and disadvantage in the wonderful world of web design. On the one hand, your websites mostly look pretty bitchin once completed, on the other hand you obsess over minor details so much your completion timetable is entirely smashed and more often than not your project just doesn’t get done.

So why am I telling you all this? Well, in designing the new look GeekZenith I came across a pretty cool, yet unbelievably simple, way to create an awesome looking ribbon banner and I just had to share it.

The scenario is thus: there’s nothing on the TV you want to watch or worse your TV is broken. You don’t have a sizeable DVD collection or you have and nothing takes your fancy. You find a decent show on iTunes, but begrudge paying any money for it. You find a torrent of the show online, but don’t want to do anything or illegal, or more likely you can’t be bothered to wait for it to download – you want to be entertained now damn it!
